I hope this site will be encouraging and inspirational to all who visit it. The site title “Channels for the Light” was inspired by Dick Sutphen’s excellent White Light Meditation CD, which I enjoy fairly frequently. In it, Mr. Sutphen encourages his listeners to be “channels for the light”. I strongly believe that we all can and should be channels for the love of the Light, regardless of what name (Jehovah, Allah, Krishna, etc.) we choose to use to address that Light. Our world already has experienced and currently is experiencing quite enough bloodshed, hatred, and judgment whether caused by religious or political differences (or both). What I really wish to bring into our world and share abundantly with our world is more love, compassion, and understanding, because our world surely needs it! I hope you will join me in helping to make our world a kinder, gentler, more loving and more compassionate place!
THE MOST IMPORTANT TRUTH: I believe that the most important truth you and I can know about the Light is that the Light is LOVE — 100% non-judgmental, unconditional, total, complete LOVE! I love the way the Aboriginal version of the Lord’s Prayer puts it:
Loving God, in whom is heaven.
To that, I say, “AMEN!”
ABOUT ME: I am a former fundamentalist Christian, and also a former fundamentalist Atheist. I spent fifteen years as a devout Christian believer, and then after discovering that those beliefs were not the “Divine Truth” I had sincerely and deeply believed them to be, I then spent eight mostly unhappy, angry, and bitter years as an outspoken Atheist. After spending twenty-three years as a fundamentalist on both sides of the religious spectrum, I am happy to report that I am joyfully hanging out somewhere in the middle. I really like where I am spiritually, but I’m hungry for more spiritual growth and more of the Light — of God — as I currently understand God. While I am not Hindu by any means, I do like and agree with many Eastern religious beliefs and teachings.
My spirituality is uniquely my own. I embrace the parts of every belief system I am exposed to that I feel brings me closer to the Light, and I hope to share a great deal of that on this site. I’m not concerned with whether you agree with my beliefs and opinions or not. I just hope you’ll take something positive away from your visit to my site.
A NOTE ON TERMINOLOGY: When I use the term “God”, I am not referring to the Christian God or to the god or gods of any established religion. I am using the term as a convenient convention to refer to the Supreme Being, the Creator, or the Light — whom I do not see as connected exclusively to any one belief system or religion. In the same way, when I refer to the Creator as male, it is a convenient convention. God, or the Light, may well be genderless, but I’m personally comfortable for now referring to God as “Him” because of past religious experience and the culture I was raised in. Please feel free to mentally substitute whatever terms you may be more comfortable with!
